"In Germany they [the Nazis] came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Pastor Martin Niemoeller, 1946

The Emperor's New Clothes - Piercing a Fog of Lies

Environmental News Network - Since 1993, the Environmental News Network has been working to educate the world about environmental issues facing our Earth. We began as a monthly print publication, called Environmental News Briefing, and two years later discovered the Internet as an effective means of reaching a broader, more diverse audience.

From the Wilderness - We offer our readers a unique and accurate map of how the world works, unfiltered by preconception or ideology. Since 9-11 we have doubled in size and our web site traffic now exceeds 6,000 visitors a day. We also have a new section on the web site with important stories which is exclusively for the use of our subscribers. Now you can join the major media, politicians and academics from around the world who come to us for perspective and information they can get no place else except From The Wilderness.

InfoShop - Infoshop.org is committed to promoting and featuring all aspects of contemporary anarchism and anti-authoritarianism. We support the development of critical-thinking skills, so we'll err on the side of posting a bad article if it is relevant to a current discussion within anarchism. Infoshop.org is an ecumenical place for anarchists, one that doesn't take sides, whenever possible. Of course, this precludes nonsense like anarcho-capitalism and third positionism.

Memory Hole, The - The Memory Hole exists to preserve and spread material that is in danger of being lost, is hard to find, or is not widely known. This includes: government files, corporate memos, court documents (incl. lawsuits and transcripts), police reports and eyewitness statements, congressional testimony, reports (governmental and non-governmental), maps, patents, web pages, photographs, video, and sound recordings, news articles, and books (and portions of books). The emphasis is on material that exposes things that we're not supposed to know (or that we're supposed to forget).

Radio4All (Internet Radio Broadcasts) - The A-Infos Radio Project was formed in 1996 by grassroots broadcasters, free radio journalists and cyber-activists to provide ourselves with the means to share our radio programs via the Internet. To our knowledge, the A-Infos Radio Project was the first grassroots media project of it's kind on the internet. Our goal is to support and expand the movement for democratic communications worldwide. We exist to be an alternative to the corporate and government media which do not serve struggles for liberty, justice and peace, nor enable the free expression of creativity. The archived material is available to anyone who wants it free of charge.

t r u t h o u t - This is an excellent source of the most up-to-date, non-mainstream news that you're going to find on the web. They can send daily updates which are worth the time to read. No spam here.

Working for Change - WorkingForChange is a comprehensive Web site made up of resources for people with progressive values. Anyone with Internet access (members and non-members alike) can speak out on urgent issues, read informative news and columns, go shopping, make a donation or volunteer their time.

Media Watchdog Groups

F.A.I.R. - Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting - FAIR, the national media watch group, has been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. As an anti-censorship organization, we expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, FAIR believes that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information.

Interactivist Info Exchange: Independent Media & Analysis - The Info Exchange provides original content and links to important or interesting stories on the net. This main page includes featured stories and links to content in the Events, News, Reviews, and Analysis & Polemic sections, and a special section, "At the Brink," dealing with the events of Sept. 11th. Not every article posted to the InfoExchange appears on the front page, some will only show up in their section.

Institute for Global Communications - As a project of Tides, IGC shares the vision to actively promote change toward a healthy society, one which is founded on principals of social justice, broadly shared economic opportunity, a robust democratic process, and sustainable environmental practices. We believe healthy societies rely fundamentally on respect for individual rights, the vitality of communities, and a celebration of diversity.

Project Censored - The Primary Objective of Project Censored is to explore and publicize the extent of censorship in our society by locating stories about significant issues of which the public should be aware, but is not, for one reason or another. Thereby, the project hopes to stimulate responsible journalists to provide more mass media coverage of those issues and to encourage the general public to demand mass media coverage of those issues or to seek information from other sources.
