The Green Dragon Inn

Here is a possible design for the first Dragonvale building, which would serve as a combination home/office/tavern/venue for the first people moving onto the land. Some time later, the living space would likely be converted into guest accomodations.

The major rooms on the ground floor include a great hall, a tavern, a professional kitchen, a solarium, and a full greenhouse. The great hall will extend up through both levels of the inn, with a large central fireplace situated between the hall and the kitchen. A walkway on the second floor will look down over the great hall. This hall would be used for community gatherings and large scale events.

The tavern would be a more intimate venue with a fireplace of its own, a bar, tables and booths. It will have it's own outside entrance for public access.

The kitchen will be a large professional grade work space with three storage rooms; a larger dry storage room, a walk-in refrigerator, and a walk-in freezer. These will be enclosed in strawbale and cob, thus insulating them and making them much more efficient. To the left of the kitchen are two smaller public restrooms, and between them is the "wet wall" which is actually a room that contains the bulk of the plumming, giving us very easy access and repair. The wet wall extends up through both floors, serving the larger second floor bathroom.

The solarium and greenhouse would be located on the southern side of the building make the most effective use of passive solar heating to help warm the inn.

On the opposite side of the building from the greenhouse, we would leave that area open with a full roof to protect the timbers. Along the inner wall will be hitching areas for horses.

The second floor of the inn will contain 13 bedrooms; six small bedrooms, four medium bedrooms and three large bedrooms. There is also a common area, library, study, and of course the bathroom. The bathroom will have three shower stalls, one large tub (large enough for two adults) and four toilet stalls. The toilets might be elevated to accommodate composting hardware if necessary.

On the eastern wall (bottom of the plan) looking down over the hall will be a large circular stained glass window.
